So months ago, concept art was leaked for a Buffy and Angel set for Monster High. (If you don’t know what Monster High is, Monster High follows the teenage children of famous universal monsters and mythical creatures such as Dracula, Frankenstein, etc. as they navigate the ups and downs of high school life. Created by Mattel, the franchise centers on themes of inclusivity, self-expression, and celebrating what makes everyone uniquely “freaky fabulous”. My daughters were SUPER obsessed with the line when they first launched back in the mid 2000’s, and as a long-time doll lover and collector, I absolutely love the way they’re designed- so cute and unique! Monster High also has a “Skullector” line, where they put their own spin on classic horror characters like Morticia Addams, Michael Myers, and tons more.)
I have been saying for YEARS they needed to do a Buffy doll, so when the concept art was leaked, I nearly had an anuerism. The concept art was released around the same time we heard we’d be getting the reboot, but then the reboot was cancelled and I (along with a lot of others) was nervous they’d cancel the Buffy and Angel set. Well, yesterday this photo was posted to the Monster High Facebook page:
The amount of people in the comments thinking it was “Twilight”-related made me a little sick, but I had to remind myself the target age range for Monster High dolls is not 40-something year old women, so yes- it makes sense for them to think it was Edward and Bella. But with the caption on the photo being “Chosen. Cursed. Coming soon.”, the real ones know what this means…
And then I see this teaser image on the Monster High page on the Mattel website:
I can see Angel’s leather jacket and Buffy’s long blonde hair, as well as her purse made to look like the Vampyr book- just like in the concept art- so I have to tell y’all I am fucking SCREAMING!! According to gossip on Reddit, the set will be available on September 7th, and when I tell y’all I will be one of the first to own it, you better believe it. I cannot wait to add this amazing set to my doll collection! FUCK YEAH!!
